Trustee – Bernard Waddingham

Bernard Waddingham
Bernard Waddingham was born in 1946, and educated at Mount St Mary’s College. After school, he spent a year with Voluntary Service Overseas (in The Philippines) from 1964-65, before going on to Sheffield University where he graduated  with a degree in economics in 1968.

He became an Associate of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales in 1971, and a Fellow in 1979.

Bernard worked for Exel PLC (formerly NFC PLC and previously National Freight Corporation) from 1973-2005. He has worked in a number of voluntary capacities being severally, Joint Hon Treasurer of the Catholic Union of Great Britain since 1981, as well as the Treasurer of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre Lieutenancy of England and Wales, since 2006. He was also a member of his local Parish Finance Committee, as Treasurer from 1995-2013.

He is a member of the Catenian Association and has been married to Margaret, with whom he has three children, since 1972.

Chairman – James Bogle

James BogleJames Bogle is a barrister practising in the Inner Temple, London, where he is Deputy Head of Chambers. He also writes and broadcasts on historical and constitutional themes in the UK and the USA, as well as on legal and human rights issues. Baptised at St George’s Church, Penang, Malaya, he was educated in Australia and, at University, he converted from Anglicanism to Catholicism. Following University, he entered the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, and was commissioned into the Queen’s Own Hussars. After the Army he read for the Bar and now practises in commercial, property, medical, private international law, and arbitration, and has appeared in high profile cases such as the Dianne Pretty euthanasia case. He has been a lecturer in medical law at St George’s Hospital Medical school and a tutor in advocacy at the Middle Temple. He was for many years Chairman of the Catholic Union and is now Vice-Chairman. He is also President of the International Una Voce Federation, Chairman of the UK Catholic Forum, a director of EWTN (UK), a lay trustee of Farnborough Abbey, and a Knight of Malta. He is married to well-known Catholic author, Joanna Bogle, and co-authored a biography of the recently beatified Habsburg, Blessed Charles I of Austria. He has a special interest in the issue of religious freedom in the modern world.

Trustee – John Barrie


John BarrieJohn Barrie is a retired Finance Director who spent some of his working life in publishing, some in management consultancy with Price Waterhouse, but mostly in the mechanical engineering sector. He has been a member of the Catholic Union since 1983, PPAC member since 2002, council member since 2006 and Vice Chairman 2007-2010 .He has devoted a considerable amount of time to charitable works. He chaired a voluntary management committee operating two Homes for the Elderly with 60 bed spaces. He has been auditor/accountant for the Canon Law Society, Governor of Cranmore School, Treasurer and management committee for the Cardinal Hume Centre, chaired a local LIFE group for nearly 25 years, Council member for the Society of St Augustine of Canterbury for 25 years, the last ten of which were as Chairman, Past Grand President of the Catenian Association. His work has been recognised by the Church with the award of a KSG in 1982, and promotion to KCSG in 2002. His leisure interests mainly concern his family and cricket, being a member of six cricket clubs.

Trustee – Robert Rigby


Married and a life long Catholic.  Educated at Ampleforth College, he is a sales and marketing profession having worked for a PR and Advertising Agency in the 1980′s before moving onto Japan Airlines where he ran their European and later UK marketing.  He is currently business development and marketing manager for Emerald Global Ltd. In May 2010 he was elected a Westminster City councillor representing Regent’s Park Ward and is currently a Governor of two Catholic schools in London (Westminster & Hackney) as well as a member of the Society of St Augustine of Canterbury.   He is a past Trustee of The London Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy.  He is a keen runner competing regularly in 10k’s and has completed the London Marathon back in 1986.  As well as running and cricket, Robert has a keen interest in mid to late 20th Century film music, in particular the works of John Barry, as well as other music of this genre.
